No Common Ground Symposium
Lecture Theatre 1, Te Toki a Rata Building, Victoria University of Wellington
No Common Ground is a one-day symposium addressing histories of feminist art, mana wahine and queer practice, co-organised by Adam Art Gallery Te Pātaka Toi, The Dowse Art Museum and Enjoy Public Art Gallery and hosted at Victoria University of Wellington. Timed to coincide with exhibitions hosted by each organisation as their contribution to Suffrage 125 commemorations, the symposium aims to assess and discuss various curatorial strategies for presenting the work of women artists.

Film Screening: Eight Filmworks by Ana Mendieta

Please join us for a special screening of eight short filmworks by Cuban-American artist, Ana Mendieta. Mendieta’s distinctive ‘earth-body’ sculptural practice of the 1970s was at the fore of Christina Barton’s thinking when she curated the exhibition The earth looks upon us / Ko Papatūānuku te matua o tangata. The screening will be introduced by Gabriela Salgado, an expert on Mendieta and artists of the ‘global south’, who is Artistic Director at Te Tuhi, Auckland. In situ: writers reading in and about place

An evening of readings by Māori women writers, featuring: Anahera Gildea, Arihia Latham, Te Kahureremoa Taumata and Tayi Tibble. The event has been organised by Cassandra Barnett, who will moderate the evening.
