Join David Maskill and his students for the first of two sessions in which students present on the artists and themes profiled in Traces of the Wake: The Etching Revival in Britain and Beyond.

Curator Sandy Callister and artists Janet Bayly and Rhondda Bosworth discuss Fragments of a World: Artists Working in Film and Photography 1973–1987.

Join us for session two of the Honours students’ presentations on the exhibition they’ve curated, Traces of the Wake: The Etching Revival in Britain and Beyond.

Please join us as Bruce Barber Skypes in from his home in Halifax, Canada to discuss the exhibition Bruce Barber: Performance Scores with the exhibition curator Stephen Cleland.

Join us for the first of two music events in response to Bruce Barber: Performance Scores which has been coordinated by composer Glen Downie. Contributors include Alex MacDonald, Gérard Pesson, John Taverner, Robert Caldwell, Evee Telfar, Jonathan Shirley, Salina Fisher, Louisa Nicklin, Reuben Jelleyman and Chris Wratt. Suggested donation: $10

Saturday 14 November, 7.30pm
In this special event Flo Wilson, PHD candidate at the New Zealand School of Music (NZSM), invites a group of contemporary musicians to create the second set of live responses to the exhibition Bruce Barber: Performance Scores. The musicians and composers include: Blake Johnston, Mo Zareei, Jim Murphy, Flo Wilson and Bridget Johnson. Refreshments provided.

The Adam Art Gallery and CIRCUIT Artist Film and Video Aotearoa New Zealand are pleased to jointly present the Wellington premier of Six Artists Respond to the Poetry of Joanna Margaret Paul, a programme of short moving-image works by Sonya Lacey, Nova Paul, Miranda Parkes, Rachel Shearer, Shannon Te Ao and the collective Popular Productions, commissioned by Solomon Nagler and Mark Williams for CIRCUIT.

Our new regular series of seminars continues showcasing the ‘work’ of art history. Please join us as established and emerging art historians working inside and outside the academy present on their current and recent research.

Thursday 8 October
As part of the Art History in Practice Seminar Series, David Maskill, Senior Lecturer in Art History, will offer insights into the process of realising his Honours’ class exhibitions.

Thursday 29 October
As part of the Art History in Practice Seminar Series Art History students Kari Schmidt and Simon Gennard will discuss the process of writing an Honours’ dissertation.

Thursday 19 November
As part of the Art History in Practice Seminar Series, Aaron Lister, Curator at City Gallery Wellington, offers his insights on working with contemporary artist, Fiona Pardington, and curating her first substantial survey exhibition currently on show at City Gallery Wellington.

Thursday 3 December
As part of the Art History in Practice Seminar Series, join Tina Barton, Director of the Adam Art Gallery who will revisit a lecture she gave at the Frankfurter Kunstverein in 2012 titled Over and Over Again: The Legacy of Gordon Walters, which offers a new reading of Walters’ early painting The Poet (1947).
