The strength of the Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) Art Collection has evolved from its focus on acquiring contemporary New Zealand works of art. Consequently, the collection development policy is regularly revisited to ensure that new acquisitions respond to and foster contemporary trends in artistic practice.
Recent initiatives have included:
- encouraging the development of work by an emerging artist engaging with the university community in some way
- working to establish a collection focus in the area of new media and moving image, in particular, in DVD format.
