William McAloon 1969 – 2012
We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of William McAloon, curator of Historical New Zealand Art at Te Papa. William was an admired colleague who supported the Adam in important ways. His exhibition Gordon Walters: Prints and Design (2004) was exemplary of his skills as a researcher and curator, while his stewardship of and contributions to Victoria’s Art, the publication which documents the VUW Art Collection (2005) were vital to its success as an authoritative history of the university art collection. Most recently William helped record the reminiscences of Wellington collectors Tim and Sherrah Francis, drawing on his great knowledge of New Zealand art to explore their contributions to Wellington’s cultural life. He will be greatly missed.
